Corona – COVID 19 Report with Kosovo Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian students

Corona virus in Kosovo has been extremely influential in changing the routine
of people's lives, where everyone is isolated at home and locked up in
quarantined cities. While the situation in Kosovo is becoming worse every other
day, the restrictive measures taken by the country authorities in preventing
this pandemic situation are directly affecting the lives of the Roma, Ashkali
and Egyptian communities in Kosovo. According to statistics, about 60% of these
communities are officially unemployed and this situation becomes even worse
during the quarantine period, due to the fact that a high percentage of
community members socio-economic conditions are at very low level.

Since the Corona virus is a new virus, people do not
have much information and therefore do not know how to protect themselves.
Carelessness and lack of information can cost you your life. To ensure that
students from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities are sufficiently
informed and equipped with security measurements at this time, the TER-KOS
program has conducted several interviews. During these interviews students were
asked about their knowledge regarding
the transmission of the virus, whether they can recognize the symptoms
how this virus is manifested, preventive measures, their current socio-economic
status and were also asked to give an overview about the general condition of
the community, especially in their respective municipalities and sites.
